Amending some provisions of the Narcotic Substances Control Law is a qualitative addition that strengthens the UAE’s position globally

Sheikh Zayed bin Hamad Al Nahyan, Chairman of the National Narcotics Control Agency, confirmed that the UAE government’s issuance of a federal decree law amending some provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Control Law constitutes a pivotal step that strengthens the national system in this field, and consolidates its efficiency in accordance with the highest health, regulatory and security standards. It also enhances the ability of the National Narcotics Control Agency to achieve its strategic goals.

He expressed that the decree law reflects the UAE’s firm commitment to developing an advanced legislative system that keeps pace with global developments, achieves a balance between legal deterrence and protecting society, and at the same time supports treatment and rehabilitation efforts, ensuring the safety of members of society and strengthening the state’s humanitarian approach in dealing with some cases according to precise and specific standards.

He added that these amendments come to enhance institutional integration between the various concerned authorities and the developments that occur continuously in the medical products and drug control sector, in a way that ensures unity of procedures and speed of law enforcement in relevant cases. The decree law also contributes to supporting strategic national initiatives aimed at enhancing community prevention and raising the level of awareness of the danger of drugs among various groups, especially young people.

Sheikh Zayed bin Hamad Al Nahyan concluded by emphasizing that the decree law constitutes a qualitative addition to the state’s journey in consolidating its position as a global model in the fight against drugs in all its security, health and social dimensions.
