Global Studies University hosts its first graduate research exhibition

Sharjah, December 11 / WAM / The Global Studies University (GSU) hosted its first graduate research exhibition today, highlighting the work of the first batch of the Master’s program in Global African Studies, in the presence of Sheikha Hoor Al Qasimi, President of the University, Dr. Salah Mohammed Hassan, Director of the University, and a number of faculty members and specialists.
The event confirms the expansion of the university’s academic presence, following the official launch earlier this year of both the master’s program and the new doctoral program in global studies by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.
The exhibition came under the slogan “Research in Progress: Methodologies, Topics, and Horizons for Africa,” and through it, 23 male and female students presented multidisciplinary research projects that addressed issues in development, governance, culture, heritage, and African-Arab relations, within the program’s three tracks: museum studies and critical heritage, African international relations, and Arab-African relations.
Dr. Biniyam Sisay Mendiso, Associate Dean of the Africa Institute, confirmed that the projects reflect the strength of the university’s interdisciplinary research training, while an elite group of faculty members supervised the development of research within research methodologies courses.
The research poster evaluation process resulted in Mantati Mlotshwa winning first place, Lou Bacha Dios and Daniel Mbezi shared second place, while Nouf Ali Al Jahdhami won third place.
Following the exhibition, a symposium entitled “Imagining Asia” was organized, presented by Dr. Iftikhar Dadi from Cornell University, as part of the Fall 2025 seminar series that reinforces the university’s transition from area studies to global studies.
The university operates within a network of specialized institutes, starting with the Africa Institute, with plans to expand the network by launching the Asia Institute in 2026 and other institutes covering various regions of the world.
