Dubai Police arrest a young man who celebrated his birthday by setting fire to a public street

Dubai Police were able to arrest a young man who set fire to a public street using a highly flammable substance to celebrate his birthday, in an attempt to attract followers and achieve electronic spread at the expense of his personal safety and the safety of society and road users.

Director of the General Traffic Department at Dubai Police, Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, confirmed that turning public roads into an arena for dangerous parades and filming video clips to publish on social media sites with the aim of raising viewership rates is considered completely unacceptable behavior and constitutes a serious danger to road users.

Brigadier General Jumaa bin Suwaidan explained that what the young man did was a clear violation of the traffic law, and falls within the reckless behavior that threatens lives and property, indicating that setting a fire on the public street, in addition to exposing the driver himself and others to the risk of fire, obstructs traffic and causes confusion for road users, in addition to causing damage to the road infrastructure and the surrounding environment.

He pointed out that as soon as the video clip was circulated on social media, the enforcement teams at the General Traffic Department of Dubai Police monitored it and analyzed its content, then determined the identity of the young man and the vehicle used in the parade, so that he could be summoned and take legal measures against him, seize the vehicle and hold him responsible for the violations and damages resulting from his behavior.

The Director of the General Traffic Department stressed that Dubai Police will not tolerate anyone who exploits public roads to carry out any kind of dangerous displays in order to achieve false fame or digital gains, stressing that these actions do not reflect the values of society, and contradict the efforts made to make the emirate’s roads safe and free of reckless behavior.

Brigadier General Jumaa bin Suwaidan called on parents to monitor their children’s behavior, make them aware of the danger of imitating negative content spread across some platforms, and be aware that searching for likes and views does not justify committing actions that put their lives and the lives of others at risk or put them under the penalty of the law.

He also appealed to young people to invest social media platforms in purposeful and positive content that reflects the civilized image of the country, and to stay away from any reckless behavior that might turn a moment of celebration or parade into a painful incident or a criminal case, stressing that Dubai Police continues to intensify field patrols and smart oversight to monitor such practices and deal with them firmly.
