"Emirati Books for Young Adults" Publishers are invited to participate in the competition to choose books for people with disabilities

Sharjah, 12 December / WAM / The UAE Board on Books for Young People has invited publishers in the United Arab Emirates to participate in the International Board on Books for Young People’s Competition to select outstanding books for young people with disabilities for the year 2027, which is considered one of the most prominent global initiatives supporting the right of children and young people with disabilities to access high-quality cognitive content.
The competition allows publishers to nominate books published since 2022 or later, provided that they are copyrighted and represent a qualitative addition in two main categories: media that facilitates access to books, and includes publications presented in formats such as Braille, sign language, large print, tactile books, accessible books for readers with developmental disabilities, and books that embody disability through realistic or fictional stories that show multi-dimensional characters with hearing, physical, cognitive, or neurological disabilities.
Receiving digital nominations begins through the application form available on the website of the UAE Council on Books for Young People, with January 15, 2026 being the deadline for receiving forms and digital copies, while one paper copy of each book is sent to the headquarters of the International Council in Toronto, Canada, before February 16, 2026. After completing the evaluation, the final list of distinguished books will be announced in September or October 2026, to be published later on the Council’s official website, and its volume will be displayed at the Bologna Fair. For children’s books in 2027, in addition to the complete collection that will be displayed in multiple international exhibitions around the world.
