"Energy Department" and"Abu Dhabi Agriculture" They launch a project " Smart meter"

ABU DHABI, 15 DECEMBER WAM / The Department of Energy in Abu Dhabi, in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority, launched the “Smart Meter Project” in the Al Wathba area in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, which is a pioneering initiative aimed at integrating artificial intelligence and digital monitoring technologies, in order to enhance water use efficiency and support sustainable agriculture capabilities in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

This project is a prominent strategic milestone in Abu Dhabi’s journey to manage its resources, as it aims to ensure equitable distribution of water, rationalize consumption, and enable farmers to access real-time data and analyzes that contribute to raising the level of productivity.

The initiative will also work to link smart meters supported by artificial intelligence to the Department of Energy’s digital platform AD.WE, enhancing the accuracy of measurement and monitoring of water consumption on farms, to support data-based decision-making and reduce loss and waste of water resources.

The launch of the “Smart Meter Project” in the Al Wathba region follows the success of the pilot phase, which included a limited number of farms.

Today, the project includes 80 farms in Al Wathba, with a future plan to expand its scope to include other areas such as Al Nahda (130 farms) and Al Rahba (2,500 farms), in a step that confirms the Emirate of Abu Dhabi’s commitment to enhancing water and food security.

This initiative provides a scalable model in the field of smart agriculture at the level of the emirate and the country in general, which highlights the role of innovation and digital transformation in raising the efficiency of resource management at the national level.

His Excellency Engineer Ahmed Mohammed Al Rumaithi, Undersecretary of the Department of Energy in Abu Dhabi, said that the “smart meter project” in the Al Wathba area embodies a pioneering practical model of the role of innovation and cooperation in enhancing the efficiency of resource management, and by taking advantage of artificial intelligence technologies and data-based solutions, we are working to bring about a transformation in the method of water management in the agricultural sector to ensure optimal use of water, which is a precious natural resource.

He explained that this project will contribute to strengthening the Emirate of Abu Dhabi’s commitment to supporting water and food security, while at the same time enabling society to adopt smarter and more sustainable practices.

For his part, His Excellency Dr. Tariq Ahmed Al Ameri, Acting Director General of the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority, said that the “smart meter” project in the Al Wathba area represents a pivotal step towards developing the smart agriculture system, as it provides farmers with accurate and immediate information about water consumption, which helps them improve resource management and enhance the operational efficiency of farms.

He added that this initiative comes within joint efforts with the Department of Energy in Abu Dhabi to enhance water and food security, and embodies a model of integration between government agencies to provide innovative and sustainable solutions that enhance the efficient use of natural resources, and consolidate the emirate’s position as a pioneering center in smart agriculture in the region.

This project confirms the Emirate of Abu Dhabi’s commitment to enhancing its economic flexibility and readiness for the future based on the foundations of sustainability and innovation.

By providing farmers with the necessary digital tools and technical support, the project not only enhances water use efficiency, but also contributes to protecting Abu Dhabi’s natural resources for the benefit of future generations.
