The Head of State and the President of the European Commission discuss by telephone cooperation relations and the importance of officially launching negotiations on the Strategic Partnership Agreement
Abu Dhabi, December 15 / WAM / His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, may God protect him, and Her Excellency Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, discussed today – during a phone call – various aspects of cooperation and joint work between the UAE and the European Union and ways to enhance it to serve the mutual interests of both sides.
The call touched on the UAE and the European Union officially launching the negotiation process on the “Strategic Partnership Agreement,” stressing its importance in consolidating bilateral relations in areas of common priority and the comprehensive institutional framework it represents to support cooperation between the two sides.
During the call, His Highness and the President of the European Commission affirmed their shared keenness to strengthen UAE-European relations, especially in development fields, noting in this context that the negotiations on a free trade agreement between the UAE and the European Union represent a qualitative step that will open new horizons for cooperation.
The two sides also reviewed a number of regional and international issues of common interest, most notably the developments in the Middle East region, the efforts made to support the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, and ways to provide adequate and sustainable aid to the residents of the Strip through various available means, stressing the importance of pushing towards finding a clear path to a just and comprehensive peace based on the “two-state solution” as it is the way to achieve regional stability.
The call also touched on developments in the Ukrainian crisis and the efforts made towards it. In this context, His Highness the President affirmed the UAE’s support for everything that contributes to resolving crises through dialogue and political solutions, based on its consistent approach to working for the benefit of the people and their aspirations for development and prosperity in the region and the world.
