The UAE signs an agreement to support health care for the Sudanese people with the International Medical Corps

Abu Dhabi, 24 December / WAM / The Emirates International Aid Agency signed a cooperation agreement with the International Medical Corps (United Kingdom), with the aim of supporting the provision of health care services to Sudanese affected by the recent escalation of violence in Sudan. The Emirates International Aid Agency will contribute two million US dollars to support the International Medical Corps’ implementation of the “Emergency Response to the Humanitarian Situation in Sudan” project, which will enhance the speed of life-saving medical intervention and increase the ability to respond to urgent health needs in the most urgent areas. damaged.
The signing of the agreement was attended by His Excellency Dr. Tariq Ahmed Al Ameri, President of the Emirates International Aid Agency, while it was signed by His Excellency Rashid Salem Al Shamsi, Executive Director of Logistics Services at the Emirates International Aid Agency, and Mr. David Eastman, Director General of the International Medical Corps.
The agreement aims to reduce disease and mortality rates among the population affected by both parties to the conflict in Sudan, provide basic health services to the most vulnerable groups, provide medicines, medical supplies and basic food supplies, and improve the living conditions of the displaced, which contributes to reducing health risks and enhancing the resilience of those affected.
In this regard, His Excellency Dr. Tariq Ahmed Al Ameri said: “The recent escalation in Sudan called for urgent medical intervention, in light of the resulting displacement of more than 450,000 people, the majority of whom are from families headed by women, in addition to unaccompanied children and survivors of acts of violence.”
He explained that this agreement comes as an extension of the UAE’s continuous efforts to improve the deteriorating humanitarian conditions in Sudan, as the country has provided approximately 784 million US dollars since the outbreak of the conflict two and a half years ago in support of the Sudanese people, in coordination with international partners and relevant humanitarian organizations to ensure that the necessary services reach civilians affected by the repercussions of this conflict.
For his part, Mr. David Eastman said: “The humanitarian needs in Sudan and neighboring countries are great, and ensuring that those affected have access to basic health care services is a top priority for families affected by this conflict,” appreciating the strategic partnership with the Emirates International Aid Agency to support the most vulnerable communities, stressing the Authority’s commitment to providing life-saving health services to those affected in coordination with local authorities and humanitarian partners.
It is worth noting that the UAE, since the beginning of the crisis between the two parties to the conflict; It called on all parties to protect civilians and health facilities, facilitate the unhindered access of humanitarian aid and medical teams, and support efforts aimed at calming the situation and enabling the political path to achieve the aspirations of the Sudanese people for security, stability and prosperity.
