Emirati female players lead the Gulf Cooperation Council Golf Championship

Muscat, December 25 / WAM / The UAE’s female players dominated the podiums in the Gulf Cooperation Council Golf Championship, in its fourth edition for the juniors under 13 years, the ninth for the juniors under 16 years, the eighth for women, and the second for girls under 16 years, which concluded yesterday in the Sultanate of Oman, on the fields of the Ola Club in the capital, Muscat.
The UAE players occupied the first three places in the singles competitions for girls under 16 years old, with player Anka Mateo taking first place with a total of one stroke above par, 8 strokes ahead of her teammates Asiya Salim and Sara Abu Bakr, who finished in second and third place.
The UAE girls’ under-16 team also topped the team competitions with a total of three shots under par, while the Saudi and Kuwaiti teams came in second and third place.
In the women’s category, UAE players continued their superiority by winning the top three places in the individual competition, in addition to winning the team title, as player Jamie Cameron came in first place with a total of two strokes above par, two strokes ahead of Lara Al Shayeb, while Al Balushi came in third place with a total of 19 strokes above par.
The UAE players succeeded in taking the lead in the women’s team competitions with a total of two shots under par, ahead of the Saudi and Bahrain teams, who came in second and third place.
At the level of junior competitions, the best Emirati results in the individual competition came with Mohammed Thabet and Abdullah Darwish taking fourth and fifth places with a total of 33 and 35 strokes above par, respectively, while the UAE national team came in third place in the team competition with a total of 67 strokes above par, behind the leading Qatari team with 51 strokes above par, and Bahrain, which ranked second.
Abdullah Al Sayed Al Hashemi, President of the Emirates Golf Federation, praised the distinguished results achieved by the country’s teams in the tournament, stressing that this outcome reflects the success of the Federation’s strategy based on building from the ground up, investing in the age stages, expanding the base of practitioners, and providing progressive technical preparation programs and a competitive environment, which contributes to strengthening the presence of Emirati golf at the regional and international levels.
