Today, Abu Dhabi Police and the Abu Dhabi Civil Defense Authority called on the public, as part of the “Our Winter is Safe and Enjoyable” campaign, to adhere to public safety guidelines while using firewood and heating devices to avoid any accidents that may result from their misuse, and to stay away from some wrong behaviors and behaviors in using heating devices that may cause accidents such as house fires or suffocation.
Director of the Criminal Security Sector at Abu Dhabi Police, Major General Mohammed Suhail Al Rashidi, confirmed that five reports of suffocation cases resulting from the use of coal or firewood for heating purposes inside homes were dealt with, without any deaths, noting that the speed of response contributed to saving the injured, calling on the public to avoid using traditional heating methods in closed spaces and the necessity of providing appropriate ventilation.
The Director of the Al Ain Region Police Directorate, Brigadier Saeed Humaid bin Dalmuj Al Dhaheri, warned against lighting a fire using firewood or charcoal inside the house or rooms without observing safety measures in order to avoid suffocation and the outbreak of fire, stressing the need to pay attention when using a wood-burning stove, especially at night, and not to sleep next to it to avoid the risk of suffocation or the outbreak of fire. It should also be lit outside the rooms or special extractors must be provided to allow the smoke to rise to the top, while maintaining proper ventilation, and not leaving it burning when it is finished and extinguished. outside the house.
