Correcting the course of the league is a top priority for Sharjah… and they are keen to renew Meloni’s contract

Sharjah Club Football Company, Ibrahim Saleh Sembig, confirmed that the next stage will witness a great focus on the team’s matches in the ADNOC Professional League, with the aim of correcting the course and achieving an advanced position worthy of the name and status of “The King”, following the achievement achieved by the team in finally being crowned Super Cup champion after defeating Shabab Al-Ahly 3-2.
Ibrahim Saleh told Emirates Al-Youm: “The league represents a top priority for the club at the present time, in addition to the team’s aspiration to win the UAE-Qatari Super Cup, which is scheduled to be held during the current month.”
Regarding the possibility of supporting the team’s ranks during the winter transfer period, which begins on the 13th of this month, Ibrahim Saleh indicated that “the management is seeking to strengthen the team with new elements if there are players capable of providing the required technical addition.”
He explained that “the club’s management has already identified the positions that need support during the next stage,” stressing at the same time that “Sharjah currently includes a distinguished group of players, which means that the team does not need extensive changes, but rather limited support in certain positions.”
The Chairman of the Sharjah Football Club Company pointed out that “harmony and understanding prevail in the current administrative group,” noting that “the presence of Portuguese coach Jose Moraes constitutes an important addition to the club’s journey,” stressing that “the coach needs more time to bring about the desired change and return the team to the right path, especially in light of his busy training history, the most recent of which is his experience with Al Wahda Club.”
He added, “Sharjah finished last season in second place in all tournaments with the same elements as it currently has, and was also crowned the AFC Champions League 2,” explaining that “the decline in results in the recent period is due to the lack of success of the former coach Milos, in addition to the team not appearing at the required level at the beginning of the season.”
Sharjah currently occupies 11th place in the ADNOC Professional League standings with seven points, while it is in eighth place in the AFC Champions League for Elite Clubs with seven points as well, with two matches remaining in the group stage against Al-Duhail of Qatar and Nasaf of Uzbekistan.
Regarding winning the Super Cup title despite the short period during which the current administration assumed its duties, along with the new technical staff, Ibrahim Saleh stressed that “winning the title is a good achievement that is credited to the current group in the club.”
Regarding the renewal of the contracts of some players that are about to expire, the head of the Sharjah Football Company explained that “this file will be dealt with in full coordination with the coach, and in accordance with the team’s technical needs.”
Regarding the future of player Marcus Meloni, in light of the news circulating about the possibility of his departure, Ibrahim Saleh confirmed that “the management is keen to renew the player’s contract and continue with him within the team.”
As for Sharjah’s journey in the AFC Champions League for Elite Clubs, Ibrahim Saleh stressed that “the team performed well against Al Hilal Saudi Arabia despite losing 1-0 in the sixth round,” explaining that “Sharjah had not regained its full readiness at the time,” stressing at the same time that “Al Hilal is one of the strong teams and includes distinguished elements, regardless of the circumstances of the match.”
