Meraas announces the residential master plan for Dubai Design District

Meraas, a subsidiary of Dubai Holding Properties, has unveiled the expanded residential master plan for Dubai Design District, with the aim of transforming the neighborhood into one of the most attractive and innovative waterfront neighborhoods in Dubai. The project aims to create a modern residential environment overlooking the Dubai Creek that includes cultural areas, public green spaces, and urban pedestrian streets within an integrated community that enables global talents to live, work and innovate.
The expanded Dubai Design District is located between Downtown Dubai and Dubai Creek, and spans an area of 18 million square feet. The expanded residential plan, designed and developed by Meraas, includes a diverse mix of residential, cultural, retail and hospitality experiences, enhancing Dubai’s ambition to consolidate its position as a global center for design, innovation and culture, in line with the Dubai Economic Agenda (D33). The residential expansion also meets the growing market demand following the strong performance of the new projects that were launched recently, and the growing interest from local and international buyers looking for residential complexes with a waterfront view, full services, and a distinctive modern design.
One of the most prominent features of the new masterplan is the Design Line, a fully shaded pedestrian walkway that seamlessly connects all parts of Dubai Design District. This corridor is brought to life with public art installations, creative activities, community spaces and landscaped greenways, enabling a walkable lifestyle, while reinforcing d3’s identity as one of Dubai’s most innovative urban design districts. The masterplan also aims to obtain the Silver Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification by promoting sustainable transportation, improving connectivity between neighborhood areas, energy-efficient design, and integration with the landscape, including its visual connection with Dubai Creek and Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary.
Five distinct areas will form the new character of the neighborhood. Along the canal, the first district will include modern homes and upscale hotels overlooking a lively waterfront promenade. The second district, which is the urban heart of the community, will combine carefully selected residences, shops and restaurants, along with a global business environment specializing in the fields of design and creativity in the Dubai Design District. The third district will form the cultural core of the neighborhood, with venues dedicated to performing arts and mid-rise homes overlooking the D3 Bowl stadium. While the fourth district will provide a living environment focused on health and relaxation, distinguished by gardens, sports facilities, and landscapes inspired by mangrove trees, while the fifth district will be a center for creativity, housing galleries, studios, and work spaces designed in the “Loft” style to support collaboration and artistic production.
On this occasion, Khalid Al Malik, CEO of Dubai Holding Properties, said: “The expanded master plan for Dubai Design District and its transformation into an integrated creative district constitutes an important step towards achieving the aspirations of the Dubai Economic Agenda (D33). This project contributes to strengthening Dubai Design District’s position as a global standard for urban life characterized by innovative modern designs, and thus consolidating Dubai’s position as a preferred destination for long-term investment and attracting talent and innovation.”
The project is witnessing accelerating momentum, as the residential projects recently launched by Meraas in the Dubai Design District have attracted exceptional demand, including the rapid sale of units in the Atilis project, a waterfront residential complex with 280 residential units, and the successful launch of The Edit, a distinguished three-tower project containing 557 modern residential units.
Thanks to its renewed vision, new residential projects, and distinctive creative identity, the expanded master plan for Dubai Design District will contribute to consolidating the neighborhood’s position as one of Dubai’s most inspiring and innovative design districts. As a neighborhood where creativity shapes daily life, and a haven where creative people from all over the world gather.
