This is how your skin recovers from the excesses of the holiday season

After the holiday season ends, many women suffer from the effects of excessive food, sweets, alcoholic drinks and long stays on the skin, such as pimples, redness, and loss of freshness.

Health and skin care expert, Risa Fomachan, from Landys Chemist, said that excessive fatty foods and alcohol may damage collagen and elastin, which are responsible for skin elasticity, leading to increased secretion of natural oils, the appearance of acne, dry skin, and an uneven texture. She added that good sleep is essential for skin rejuvenation, collagen production, and reducing dark circles.

She explained that the skin usually begins to balance within 7 to 21 days after excesses, depending on the level of hydration, quality of sleep, and level of inflammation. She advised women to focus at the beginning of January on repairing and protecting the skin by using a gentle moisturizer, lotion, and sunscreen, while avoiding exfoliants, retinoids, and strong scented products.

As skin improves, additional steps can be introduced such as reducing redness, supporting cell turnover, gradually improving texture with a gentle exfoliant once a week, soothing substances such as niacinamide, and supporting internal health with omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin D.

Fomachan pointed out that by late January, the skin should become more elastic, and active products can then be reintroduced into a simple and consistent routine, stressing that long-term skin health is built on continuity and a regular routine.
