المملكة: 5 Safar…a deadline for issuing licenses for underground wells in the Mecca region


Tighten the The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture in the Makkah Al-Mukarramah region stresses the need for well owners to quickly obtain licenses to use sources Groundwater, benefiting from the remaining statutory deadline that ends on the fifth of Safar, 1448 AH.

Engineer Walid Al Deghis, Director General of the Ministry’s branch in the region, confirmed that the decision to extend the deadline aims directly to enable all beneficiaries to complete their regulatory procedures via the “Nama” electronic platform with ease and ease.

Environmental requirements

The Ministry called on all Those included in the decision must fully comply with the technical and environmental controls and requirements regulating the use of groundwater, to ensure the legality of the continued operation of these wells and avoid regulatory consequences.

The decision excluded local agricultural companies and large Wheat farmers who are licensed to benefit from this extension, as these categories remain subject to the previously announced deadlines and requirements for their sectors.

The branch also clarified that the deadline does not include activities related to the supervision of the Saudi Water Authority and the Saudi Food and Drug Authority, such as potable and non-potable water facilities and bottled water factories.

Protecting Wealth

These moves come within the Ministry’s strategy to regulate groundwater uses in The Kingdom, ensuring the protection of water resources from random depletion and achieving sustainable management of natural resources.

The new regulatory measures are based on achieving the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 in the water sector, by imposing careful control that ensures a balance between current needs and the rights of future generations.

The Ministry warned that regulating the use of wells is an urgent national necessity, aiming to monitor water reserves and direct them towards the correct development purposes in accordance with the approved executive regulations for the water system.
