UAE/ Qualitative achievements in energy, infrastructure and housing during 2025

Abu Dhabi, January 17, 2025 – The UAE has achieved an abundant harvest of qualitative achievements in the fields of energy, infrastructure, maritime transport, housing, and digital transformation, embodying its ability to achieve a precise balance between future planning and actual achievement on the ground, in a way that supports the country’s vision of building a pioneering development system.

These achievements embody a government approach based on innovation, efficient performance, and raising the quality of life, and confirm the ability to transform national strategies into tangible results that enhance the country’s competitiveness.

The UAE continued its outstanding performance in the housing file, with the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure issuing 3,567 housing support decisions with a total value of two billion and 546 million dirhams, which included housing grants, loans and housing financing, which reflects the speed of response and flexibility of policies supporting citizens.

These efforts contributed to achieving an unprecedented achievement, which represented an increase in the percentage of citizens’ ownership of housing to 91%, which is one of the highest percentages in the world. The UAE also won for the first time the presidency of the General Assembly of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme, “Habitat”, in addition to its membership in the Executive Council of the programme.

In the energy sector, the year 2025 was marked by the launch of the Global Alliance for Energy Efficiency with the participation of more than 40 countries and international organizations, which confirms the UAE’s pioneering role in leading global efforts to reduce consumption and enhance efficiency. The year also witnessed the issuance of the “State of Energy 2025” report, the election of the country as a member of the Water Council of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, in addition to the launch of a guide for domestic workers in eight languages ​​to enhance awareness of rational consumption.

The implementation of the National Program for Energy and Water Demand Management 2050 confirms the UAE’s commitment to reducing energy demand by between 42% and 45% through initiatives that include industry, agriculture, infrastructure, and transportation.

The UAE paid great attention to the infrastructure and transportation sector. The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure has prepared the national agenda to address traffic congestion, which includes projects to raise the efficiency of transportation between the emirates of the country worth more than 170 billion dirhams until 2030.

The UAE seeks to raise the efficiency of federal roads by 73% over the next five years, through a project to develop and raise the efficiency of Emirates Road at a cost of 750 million dirhams, increase the capacity of Al Ittihad Road by 60%, and raise the capacity of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road by 45%. It is also studying the construction of the Fourth Federal Road, 120 kilometers long and with a capacity of up to 360,000 trips per day.

In terms of future transformation, last year witnessed the completion of 5 major transformational projects that included humanizing buildings and transforming them into healthy environments that support well-being, developing green oases, green industrial transformation, sustainable irrigation of farms, and recycling electric vehicle batteries.

The UAE strengthened its global maritime presence by hosting the event parallel to World Maritime Day and launching the National Maritime Centre, in addition to being re-elected for the fifth consecutive time as a member of the International Maritime Organization, Class B.

During the past year, the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure won 41 local, regional and international awards, and obtained 19 ISO certificates that reflect the development of its administrative systems and the quality of its operations.

The Ministry held 30 customer councils in the emirates of the country, and signed 26 agreements and memorandums of understanding to expand partnerships, exchange experiences, and enhance the impact of national projects. The year 2025 also witnessed the launch of the first integrated digital center for government services in Fujairah.

His Excellency Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, said that the year 2025 witnessed tangible progress in the implementation of strategic projects that reflect the vision of the wise leadership in building a more efficient and sustainable integrated system capable of supporting economic growth and improving the quality of life, adding that the Ministry’s efforts focused on enhancing the readiness of the federal infrastructure, raising the efficiency of the energy system and developing advanced housing solutions that suit citizens’ needs and future aspirations.

He added that the achievements achieved confirm the UAE’s ability to transform national plans into realistic results supported by numbers by adopting a business model based on effective governance, efficient resource management, and expanding local, regional and international partnerships, stressing that the Ministry will continue to focus on developing sectors in line with trends towards a low-emission economy that is more dependent on technology and innovation.

He stressed that the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure is moving confidently towards the year 2026, reinforcing its commitment to supporting the goals of the “We are the Emirates 2031” vision, leading to the UAE Centennial 2071, by continuing to work to ensure an advanced infrastructure, a sustainable energy sector, and flexible housing solutions, which together contribute to enhancing the country’s competitiveness and leadership at the regional and global levels.
