"Dubai roads" It receives 250 new buses as part of a contract that includes 735, including 40 electric buses

DUBAI, 18 JANUARY / WAM / The Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai received the first batch of new buses, numbering 250 buses, as part of a contract that includes the purchase of 735 buses of various sizes, conforming to the European specifications for low carbon emissions (Euro 6), including 40 electric buses, which are the largest and first of their kind in the country, with the supply of the rest of the buses to be completed during the current year 2026.

His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority, inspected the Zhongtong electric bus, which is the first electric bus to be operated on urban lines in Dubai. It was specifically designed to suit the operational conditions in the emirate, as its operational range reaches 280 kilometers on a single recharge, enabling it to complete its daily trips without the need to return to accommodation stations to recharge, and its battery capacity is 434 kilograms. Watt/hour, supported by a charger from ABB with a capacity of 360 kilowatts.

During the operation tour, His Excellency listened to an explanation about the specifications of the bus, which is 12 meters long and can accommodate 70 passengers, and is equipped with a 360-degree camera system. It has international safety specifications and holds international accreditation certificates, in addition to an advanced battery cooling system that suits the climatic conditions in the country, as it was tested and operated experimentally in Dubai for more than three months.

The inspection and trial operation stages showed positive results in terms of the stability of the electric propulsion system, the efficiency of energy consumption, the safety of the main systems, including the battery, cooling and brakes, in addition to its operational efficiency on urban lines, and the performance of the air conditioning and refrigeration systems with the stability of the vehicle in cases of frequent stopping and changing speeds, in addition to recording a high satisfaction rate from drivers and passengers, amounting to 95%.

Al Tayer said that the next phase will witness a gradual increase in the number of electric buses operating in the emirate, in line with national trends to reduce the carbon footprint and achieve climate neutrality by 2050, and support Dubai’s D33 economic agenda. He pointed out that this step supports the Roads and Transport Authority’s strategy, “Zero-emission public transportation in Dubai 2050,” which aims to convert all public transportation buses, taxis, and limousines into zero-emission vehicles, and achieve the conversion of 100% of public transportation buses to electric and hydrogen buses by 2050.

The contract includes the purchase of 40 electric buses of the Zhongtong type with Gulf specifications that were tested in the region, in addition to 549 buses to serve the city, including 400 MAN buses and 149 Zhongtong buses, in addition to 76 double-decker buses of the Volvo type, and 70 articulated buses of the Isuzu Anadolu type, to serve densely populated urban areas and new areas, which contributes to In expanding geographical coverage and raising the occupancy rate.

Most of the buses were equipped with smart systems and technologies to enhance safety and luxury standards, including a driver behavior monitoring system, an automated passenger counting system, and an electronic driver identification system linking it to operating systems, in addition to high equipment for safety and comfort standards, including comfortable seats, seat belts, and a modern interior design, taking into account the provision of low entrances to facilitate the boarding and disembarking of people of determination, designated seats for children, places for bicycles, Wi-Fi services, phone charging ports, and high interior finishes. Quality, in addition to adopting a national protocol for examining standard fuel consumption, which is the first of its kind in the Gulf countries.
