The UAE signs an agreement with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in support of humanitarian efforts in Sudan

The Emirates International Aid Agency signed a cooperation agreement with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in support of humanitarian efforts in Sudan, under which the UAE allocated $11 million as part of the $100 million announced by the country during the Security Council meeting held last October, including $10 million to support communities hosting Sudanese refugees in Chad, South Sudan, Uganda and Ethiopia, and $1 million to support the Federation’s Emergency Fund for Disaster Response.

The agreement was signed by the head of the Emirates International Aid Agency, Dr. Tariq Ahmed Al Ameri, and the Secretary-General of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, Jagan Chapagain, in order to support the urgent humanitarian response and stand with those affected by the current crisis between the two parties to the conflict in Sudan.

In this context, Dr. Tariq Ahmed Al Ameri stressed the UAE’s commitment to its international and moral responsibilities towards those affected by disasters, crises, wars and conflicts in various parts of the world, and to continue supporting joint international efforts to meet urgent humanitarian needs, and to work closely with international partners and relevant organizations to ensure that the necessary aid and basic requirements reach all societal groups, especially the most vulnerable segments such as children, women and the elderly, in support of human stability and saving the lives of those affected by conflict areas.

He said that the UAE’s allocation of this amount to support the Emergency Fund for Disaster Response of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies comes in light of the increasing deterioration of the humanitarian situation and the resulting widespread displacement within Sudan and neighboring countries, which requires intensifying joint international efforts and an urgent response to enhance the provision of basic living services, and enable more than a million Sudanese refugees and host communities to withstand, in Chad, South Sudan, Uganda and Ethiopia.

For his part, Jagan Chapagin said that the current crisis in Sudan has created one of the largest displacement cases in the world, causing great pressure on neighboring countries hosting refugees. Therefore, this agreement with the Emirates International Aid Agency will allow the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in Chad, South Sudan, Uganda and Ethiopia to expand the scope of providing health, water and sanitation services as basic services to refugees and their host communities, in addition to supporting the efforts of the Federation’s Emergency Disaster Response Fund with the aim of providing work Humane, fast and efficient.

This agreement comes in the context of the continued support provided by the UAE to the humanitarian relief efforts of the Sudanese brothers, within the framework of its firm and permanent commitment to support the efforts made to address this catastrophic crisis that Sudan is going through, and to work collectively with regional and international partners, to ensure the achievement of stability and peace for the brotherly Sudanese people.

The UAE’s efforts have always focused primarily on humanitarian aspects, which reflects its firm commitment to providing relief support to the Sudanese people, as the country provided $4.24 billion to Sudan during the past decade (2015-2025), at a time when it allocated $784 million in humanitarian aid since the outbreak of the current crisis (2023-2025).

The UAE is the second country after the United States in providing aid to Sudan since the beginning of the conflict, according to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.
