"Abu Dhabi Arabic Language" Launches the Arab digital publishing project


Cairo, January 29 / WAM / The Abu Dhabi Center for the Arabic Language, as part of its participation in the Cairo International Book Fair, announced the launch of the Arabic digital publishing project, through a partnership with Amazon, to digitize the Arabic book and distribute it globally.
The project was announced during the “Arab Digital Publishing Forum… New Horizons and a Promising Future,” which was organized by the Center within the framework of its keenness to support the Arab publishing industry, enhance the presence of digital Arabic content globally, discuss the digital future of Arabic publishing, and keep pace with the rapid transformations witnessed by the publishing sector in light of technological development and applications of artificial intelligence.
The forum, which was held within the framework of the exhibition, in the presence of a large presence of Arab publishing industry, technology experts, authors, and media professionals, witnessed the announcement of the project and an explanation of the mechanisms for Arab publishers to join it, in a way that enhances the means of transitioning to the field of digital work in the Arab publishing sector.
Dr. Ali bin Tamim, President of the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre, Mohamed Rashad, President of the Arab Publishers Union, and Dr. Khaled Abu Al-Lail, Acting President of the Egyptian General Book Authority, participated in the forum, while the opening session was moderated by Aisha Al-Mazrouei, Director of the Book Fairs and Events Department at the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre, who began the session by noting that the goal of the forum is to strengthen and empower the Arab publishing industry, and open new horizons for publishers and authors to keep pace with the requirements of the digital age, and to build… A publishing system capable of being sustainable and competing globally.
The forum included opening remarks for the participants, and His Excellency Dr. Ali bin Tamim, in his speech, welcomed the attendees and expressed his happiness with the center’s participation in the Cairo International Book Fair, as it is an inspiring station and one of the basic pillars in the history of Arab publishing. He announced the launch of a major strategic initiative within the project, which is the “Arabic Digital Library,” related to the future of the Arabic book, as digital transformation opens broad horizons for the prosperity of the Arabic language and multiplies opportunities for the publishing industry.
He explained that the partnership with Amazon aims to enhance the Arab presence in the global digital space, and direct access to the reader, with a strict commitment to protecting intellectual property rights.
He revealed that a large grant has been allocated to launch the initiative in partnership with Amazon, which will make thousands of digital and audio books available under the supervision of a specialized committee that monitors the quality of the content, which includes areas of knowledge, which reflects the abundance and diversity of Arab intellectual production and enhances its ability to compete within the framework of the creative economy.
For his part, Mohammed Rashad expressed his happiness with the Abu Dhabi Center for the Arabic Language’s initiative, the “Arabic Digital Library,” which benefits the publisher and provides real protection for intellectual property from search engine penetration of Arabic content, pointing out that the UAE is one of the countries most interested in the publishing industry.
While Dr. Khaled Abu Al-Lail praised the role of the Abu Dhabi Center for the Arabic Language, as an effective link between Arab cultural institutions, and its efforts in confronting the challenges of the publishing market.
The Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Center is participating in the 57th session of the Cairo International Book Fair, organized by the Egyptian General Book Authority, until next February 3, with two cultural and professional programs that highlight its pivotal role in promoting the Arabic language, developing the translation movement, and its efforts to expand the spread of the Arabic book globally and support creative industries.
