ABU DHABI, 29 JANUARY / WAM / The organizing committee of the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open Women’s Tennis Championship announced the participation of rising Turkish star Zeynep Sonmez and Indonesian player Janis Tejin with two wildcards in the 2026 edition, in a step that enhances the international diversity of the list of participants in the 500-point tournament, which is scheduled to be held from January 31 to February 7.
The recent period witnessed the brilliance of player Zeynep Sonmez, ranked 112 in the world, after she succeeded earlier this month in reaching the table of the Australian Open, and then she caused a huge surprise by eliminating 11th seed Ekaterina Alexandrova from the first round, before her career was stopped against Yulia Putintseva in the third round.
As for Janis Tjen, who is considered one of Indonesia’s most prominent players in the professional era and is currently ranked 59th in the world, she continued her progress up the rankings through a series of positive results on the WTA tour.
The announcement of these two stars adds to the list of names that appeared early in the fourth edition of the tournament, most notably the defending champion Belinda Bencic, ranked 10th in the world.
