The unemployment rate in Italy drops to 5.6% in December

Rome, February 2, 2017 – The unemployment rate in Italy fell to 5.6% during the month of December, the lowest level ever recorded since the start of recording statistical data in 2004, recording a decrease of 0.1 percentage points compared to last November.

The Italian news agency Ansamed quoted preliminary data issued by the Italian National Institute of Statistics (ISTAT) as saying that the unemployment rate recorded a decrease of 0.1 percentage points from the previous record of 5.7%, which was recorded last November.

The agency stated that the number of people holding jobs in the labor market reached 24.1 million people during the month of December, a slight decrease of 20 thousand compared to November, but higher by 62 thousand compared to December of the previous year. In contrast, the employment rate declined to 62.5%, a decrease of 0.1 points.
