The Head of State and the President of the Swiss Confederation discuss strengthening bilateral relations

Today, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, may God protect him, and Guy Parmelin, President of the Swiss Confederation, discussed various aspects of bilateral relations and opportunities to enhance them, especially in the fields of economy, investment, advanced technology, artificial intelligence, and others.

During the meeting – which took place at the Beach Palace in Abu Dhabi – His Highness the President of the State welcomed His Excellency Guy Parmelin and congratulated him on his election as President of the Swiss Confederation for the year 2026, looking forward to working with him to develop the relations of the two countries and expand their horizons.

The meeting touched on the importance of the “Artificial Intelligence Impact Summit 2027,” which will be held in Geneva, while the UAE will chair it in 2028, stressing in this context that interest in artificial intelligence and enhancing its use for development and common prosperity in the world represents a common denominator for the two countries.

The two sides stressed the importance of harnessing artificial intelligence technologies to find innovative solutions to confront common global challenges and contribute to building a prosperous and sustainable future for all.

They also stressed their mutual keenness to invest in all available opportunities to advance development relations between the two countries and push them forward for the good and development of their peoples.

The meeting discussed a number of issues of common interest, stressing the importance of strengthening the causes of peace and stability in the world through dialogue and diplomatic solutions to various crises.

The meeting was attended by His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Head of the Presidential Office for Special Affairs, and a number of ministers, senior officials and the delegation accompanying the guest president.

It is noteworthy that the “Artificial Intelligence Impact Summit”, which India will host in 2026, aims to enhance work on setting a future agenda for effective cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence, to create a strategic shift from “action” to “impact” to ensure that artificial intelligence is a catalyst for comprehensive human development, environmental sustainability and progress at the global level through multilateral action.

During the meeting, the two sides also announced a memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Foreign Trade and the Federal Administration for Economic Affairs, Education and Scientific Research in the Swiss Confederation regarding the establishment of a joint economic committee between the two countries, in addition to a letter of intent between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the UAE and the Swiss Confederation, regarding cooperation in the field of water and implementing the sixth goal of the Sustainable Development Goals.
