In the presence of the President of Seychelles/ "Abu Dhabi Development" Signs an agreement to finance a social housing project in Seychelles

DUBAI, 4th February, 2018 (WAM) – The Abu Dhabi Fund for Development signed an agreement to finance a social housing project in the Republic of Seychelles at a value of 32 million UAE dirhams. The strategic project aims to provide suitable housing units that contribute to enhancing the quality of life of individuals and comes to consolidate the role of the United Arab Emirates as a global development actor that contributes to promoting sustainable development paths.

The agreement was signed in the presence of His Excellency Dr. Patrick Herminie, President of the Republic of Seychelles, on the sidelines of the World Government Summit held in Dubai, by His Excellency Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi, Director General of the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, and His Excellency Pierre Laporte, Minister of Finance, Economic Planning, Trade and Investment of the Republic of Seychelles.

His Excellency Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi said: “The signing of this agreement with the Republic of Seychelles embodies the commitment of the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development to support the national development priorities of the partner countries, stressing that financing the social housing project reflects the keenness to enhance social stability, by providing housing units that meet the needs of the population within a safe and sustainable living environment, which contributes to the well-being of the local community, enhances the efficiency of urban planning, and supports balanced population distribution, in accordance with the requirements of comprehensive development in the country.”

For his part, His Excellency Pierre Laporte said: “I extend my sincere thanks and gratitude to the United Arab Emirates, especially the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, for their pioneering and effective role in consolidating the foundations of sustainable development and supporting the prosperity of communities. He pointed out that financing the social housing project in Seychelles represents an advanced model of constructive development partnership, because of its tangible impact that contributes to improving the integrated urban planning system, enhances the comprehensive development process and translates a sustainable future vision for our country.”

The project includes the construction of 80 housing units designated for families with limited income, distributed between 32 two-room units and 48 three-room units, and equipped with all basic infrastructure facilities and services.

The project is being implemented in two phases, each phase including 40 residential units in the Orchid Villa area, taking into account efficient planning and urban integration.

The project includes civil construction works, connecting to the electricity and water networks, preparing sewage networks, in addition to developing outdoor spaces, which contributes to providing a safe and sustainable residential environment.

The financing of this project comes as an extension of the process of strategic cooperation between the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development and the Republic of Seychelles, which began in 1979. Since then, the Fund has financed 14 development projects with a total value of approximately 549 million UAE dirhams, covering various sectors, including energy, infrastructure, housing, health, and other vital sectors. These projects have contributed to supporting the pillars of economic and social development in the Republic of Seychelles.
