A secret clause helps Barcelona “treachery” against Szczesny

The Spanish newspaper “Sport” revealed that there is a secret clause in the contract of Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny that gives FC Barcelona the right to end his career at Camp Nou at the end of the current season, despite his contract extending until the summer of 2027.
“Sport” reported that Deco’s management and team coach Hansi Flick, despite their great appreciation for Szczesny’s professionalism and his acceptance of the role of substitute for first-choice goalkeeper Juan Garcia, are planning for the next stage, and described the move as being like “treachery” and exploiting the clause against the Polish goalkeeper.
The newspaper explained that the contract signed by the Polish goalkeeper includes a “termination clause” that allows the club to terminate the last year of his contract in exchange for “reasonable” financial compensation estimated at only 2 million euros.
The report indicated that this step comes as part of a comprehensive change in the goalkeeping position initiated by Flick, as the Ter Stegen era ended, and Juan Garcia was contracted, while Iñaki Peña went out on loan.
The Spanish newspaper concluded its report by emphasizing that the final decision has not yet been made, as the duo Deco and Flick are waiting to evaluate who will be the most suitable second goalkeeper for next season, and whether the clause will be activated for Szczesny’s departure in exchange for the aforementioned compensation to make room for a new deal or not.
