The UAE welcomes the comprehensive peace plan for Sudan announced by the US President’s Advisor for African and Arab Affairs

Sheikh Shakhbout bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State, welcomed the comprehensive peace plan for Sudan announced by the US President’s Advisor for African and Arab Affairs, Massad Boulos, which is based on 5 main axes that include: an immediate humanitarian truce, ensuring sustainable humanitarian access and protection of civilians, a permanent ceasefire, a political transition to a civilian government, and post-war reconstruction.

He praised the leadership role played by US President Donald Trump in preventing Sudan from sliding towards further extremism and division and deepening the humanitarian catastrophe.

He stressed the UAE’s commitment to supporting regional and international efforts aimed at reaching an immediate ceasefire and establishing an unconditional humanitarian truce, in addition to ensuring urgent, rapid, safe and unhindered access to humanitarian aid to all parts of Sudan. He also stressed that these steps are essential to pave the way for a transitional process independent of the parties to the conflict and extremist groups, including those linked to the Muslim Brotherhood, and to meet the aspirations of the Sudanese people for the establishment of an independent civilian government.

Sheikh Shakhbut bin Nahyan renewed the UAE’s firm commitment to working with the Quartet, stressing that an immediate ceasefire would strengthen efforts to support a sustainable civil political solution that puts the interests of the Sudanese people above all else.

He also expressed his appreciation to the United States for holding the humanitarian conference and the Quartet meeting on February 3 in Washington, D.C., as two important steps to maintain international momentum in light of the continuing civil war and its devastating humanitarian repercussions.

During the conference, the UAE announced an additional humanitarian commitment of $500 million to meet urgent needs in Sudan and ensure the delivery of life-saving aid to civilians affected by the war.
