A smart glove for the blind gives the UAE an award "Gulf patents" And a silver medal in Kuwait

DUBAI, 12TH FEBRUARY / WAM / The Emirates Inventors Association crowned its distinguished participation in the 16th International Exhibition of Inventions in the Middle East, which was held in the State of Kuwait, by winning the award of the Patent Office of the General Secretariat of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, through the qualitative innovation presented by the Emirati inventor Aisha Al Zarouni, a member of the Association’s Board of Directors, which is titled “Electronic Text Reading Device with Touch.”

The Emirati innovation is a smart glove equipped with a Braille cell that allows the blind to read digital content by touch without the need for sound, relying on a phone application that converts texts into Braille signals that are sent to the glove to form letters automatically, enabling the user to read accurately and easily. This is an innovation that also won the silver medal of the exhibition, as part of an Emirati participation that received the support of the Ministry of Economy and Tourism and focused on highlighting national innovations in the technical and humanitarian fields.

In the context of this achievement, Afra Sultan Al Yarubi, Acting Head of the Innovation Attraction and Development Department in the Innovation and Industrial Property Development Department at the Ministry of Economy and Tourism, appreciated the distinguished efforts made by the Emirates Inventors Association in supporting and sponsoring inventors and innovators in the country and enabling them to participate in international forums to enhance the presence of Emirati innovation externally, an approach that witnessed a field presence by the delegation of the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council represented by the Patent Office, and with the participation of Professor Anoud Al Essayi, Patent technician examiner at the Ministry of Economy and Tourism, within the framework of supporting national competencies.

In terms of the organization and strategic objectives of the exhibition, His Excellency Eng. Sayed Jalal Al-Tabtabai, Kuwaiti Minister of Education, stressed during the opening ceremony that Kuwait’s hosting of this event reflects its established approach as a regional center supporting innovation and scientific research. He pointed out that the continuous expansion in the volume of participation, which in this session reached 213 inventors who presented about 166 inventions, enhances the international standing of the exhibition and confirms global confidence in it as a comprehensive platform for inventors, which is what Talal Jassim Al-Kharafi, Chairman of the Council of Inventors, agreed with. Management of the Kuwait Science Club and Chairman of the Supreme Committee of the Exhibition, who pointed out that the continuation of the event for more than 18 years through the efforts of volunteers and judging experts comes to honor the owners of distinguished inventions.

For his part, Majed Al-Rafiq, Director of the Examination Department at the Patent Office of the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council, explained that the Secretariat’s participation comes within a consistent approach to supporting Gulf inventors after the stage of obtaining patents, and to support them in opening broader paths to market their innovations and linking them to real investment opportunities, pointing out that the slogan of the current session, “Meeting Investors with Inventors,” is completely consistent with this trend aimed at transforming innovations into projects of economic value.
