Military precedent: America used artificial intelligence to arrest Maduro

The Wall Street Journal quoted informed sources as saying that the US military used the artificial intelligence model Claude from Anthropic in the operation to arrest Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

The report added that the use of Cloud came through Anthropic’s partnership with data company Palantir Technologies, whose platforms are widely used by the Department of Defense and federal law enforcement authorities. Reuters has not yet been able to verify the authenticity of this report. The US Department of Defense, the White House, Anthropic and Palantir did not respond to Reuters’ requests for comment.
Reuters reported in an exclusive report on Wednesday that the Pentagon is pressuring major artificial intelligence companies, including OpenAI and Anthropic, to provide their artificial intelligence tools on secret networks without a large number of the usual restrictions that companies impose on users.

Several artificial intelligence companies are developing tools specifically for the US military, most of which are only available on unclassified networks typically used for military administration. Anthropic is only available in a confidential environment through third parties, but the government is still bound by the company’s usage policies.
The use policies of Anthorpak, which raised $30 billion in its most recent funding round and now has a market capitalization of $380 billion, prohibit using Cloud to support violence, design weapons, or surveillance.
The United States arrested Maduro in Venezuela and transferred him to New York to face drug trafficking charges at the beginning of January.
