initiative "Sharjah Lights Running" Its activities will conclude with large participation during the 2026 festival

Sharjah, February 15, 2026 – The Sharjah Sports Council, in cooperation with the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, concluded the activities of the “Sharjah Lights Run” initiative, which was held yesterday evening under the umbrella of the 15th edition of the Sharjah Lights Festival 2026, with wide participation from community members of different ages and nationalities, as part of the efforts aimed at consolidating the culture of community sports and promoting healthy lifestyles in the Emirate of Sharjah.

The event started from the “Village of Lights” opposite the University City Hall building in Sharjah, where racing tracks were set up within the walls of the University City at distances of 1 km, 2.5 km, 5 km, and 10 km, allowing various groups to participate, from families and beginners to professional runners, in an atmosphere characterized by liveliness and a spirit of positive competition.

His Excellency Khalid Jassim Al Midfa, Chairman of the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, confirmed that the “Run Sharjah Lights” initiative represents an extension of the festival’s vision of providing an integrated experience that goes beyond the artistic aspect, to contribute to enhancing the quality of life and consolidating the concepts of community participation and healthy lifestyles. He pointed out that the festival constitutes a strategic platform that reflects the position of the Emirate of Sharjah as a leading cultural and tourism destination, by employing major events to enhance community interaction and support the cultural and tourism movement in the emirate.

He added that the Authority is keen, through these initiatives, to expand the positive impact of the festival to include social and humanitarian aspects, in line with the emirate’s development vision based on investing in people and enhancing the sustainability of quality of life.

For his part, His Excellency Mohammed Obaid Al-Hussan, Secretary General of the Sharjah Sports Council, confirmed that holding the community sports event coinciding with this year’s edition of the festival constituted a qualitative addition to the event, and emphasized the importance of sports in the lives of members of society of all age groups, indicating the Council’s keenness to enhance cooperation with various parties to spread the culture of sports and motivate individuals to make it a part of their daily lifestyle.

He explained that the large demand for participation contributed to the success and enrichment of the event, praising the fruitful cooperation with the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority in organizing this community sporting event, which formed a distinctive aspect of the activities of the fifteenth edition of the festival.
