Abu Dhabi Ports Group signs a memorandum of understanding with African and Emirati companies to develop sugar refining and agricultural industries

ABU DHABI, 17th February, 2017 (WAM) – Abu Dhabi Ports Group signed a memorandum of understanding with BUA Group, one of the largest African conglomerates operating in the food, mining, and manufacturing sectors; And MAIR Group – ADX: MAIR, a strategic investment company in the retail and commercial real estate sectors in the Emirates, to explore opportunities for cooperation in developing integrated sugar and food oil refineries in Abu Dhabi and a number of specific international markets.
The partnership aims to develop a world-class system for manufacturing and processing food products, while seeking to establish the largest center for agro-food industries in the region capable of meeting regional and global demand.
The initiative seeks, in line with the objectives of the country’s National Strategy for Food Security 2051, to support economic diversification, stimulate industrial growth, and consolidate the UAE’s position as a global center for agricultural food trade and distribution.
The memorandum of understanding covers a group of potential projects in Khalifa Port in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, Africa and Latin America, by utilizing the advanced infrastructure of Khalifa Port and its multi-modal connectivity channels, which contributes to strengthening the growing global presence of Abu Dhabi Ports Group in the agricultural industrial sector, which coincides with the group’s current development of infrastructure for handling and storing bulk agricultural goods in cooperation with its partners in Pakistan and Kazakhstan.
Under the memorandum, the opportunities available in the fields of grains, legumes, fodder and agricultural commodities will be evaluated, in addition to solutions related to maritime, logistical and port services and integrated distribution solutions.
