In order not to miss the train, Merkel leaves before announcing Meretz’s victory

Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel was not present at the moment it was announced that current Chancellor Friedrich Merz had won a new term as head of the Christian Democratic Party after his re-election at the party’s general conference held in Stuttgart.
Shortly after six o’clock in the evening (local time), Merkel, who headed the party for many years, bid farewell to the Chancellor and his wife, Charlotte, in a friendly atmosphere.
According to the news agency, the reason for leaving before the election result was announced was that Merkel did not want to miss the last direct train to Berlin. According to the information, Merkel congratulated Meretz in a short text message.
This is not the first time that Merkel has missed announcing the result of an important election related to Meretz. On May 6, Merkel was present on the balcony of the German Parliament (Bundestag) during the election of Meretz as chancellor. In the first round, Meretz surprisingly failed, so the session was suspended, and Merkel did not attend the second round.
