Sharjah Award "For fine art criticism" Launches the title of its 17th session

Sharjah, February 22nd / WAM / The General Secretariat of the Sharjah Award for Critical Fine Research has adopted the topic “Architecture in Arabic Formation… Homes and Approaches” as the title of the 17th session of the award, which is organized under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.

Muhammad Ibrahim Al-Qusair, Director of the Cultural Affairs Department at the Sharjah Department of Culture, Secretary-General of the Award, said that the continuous support provided by His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah for visual critical research has formed a fundamental pillar in consolidating Arab visual culture and enhancing the position of artistic criticism as an effective partner in developing the fine experience.

He pointed out that the launch of a new cycle of the award comes as an extension of this profound cultural vision of His Highness, which gives special importance to critical research and seeks to open new horizons for scholars and researchers to approach the aesthetic and intellectual transformations in Arab plastic art in a way that contributes to building a broad critical reference and keeping pace with the contemporary artistic movement.

He explained that the award contributed to consolidating its presence and reserved a prominent place for itself in the Arab library through its approach, which is based on documenting, issuing, and publishing winning research, which provided a qualitative critical accumulation that formed a reference for researchers and those interested, and created a special cultural situation that contributed to introducing the Arab critic and highlighting his research achievements. Over the course of its successive sessions, it presented more than 68 male and female critics who contributed their research to enriching the Arab critical scene and enhancing its cognitive presence.

Regarding the title of the current session, the Secretary General of the Award said that his choice reflects the Award’s awareness of the depth of the relationship between the visual arts and architectural space as one of the most important aesthetic and intellectual tributaries in the Arab plastic experience, and that the title opens up to multiple critical approaches that investigate the presence of architecture in plastic works not only as a visual element but as a carrier of cultural significance, memory and place and the analytical readings that this allows that reveal the transformations of the artistic vision and methods of expression in contemporary Arab plastic arts.

It is noteworthy that the Sharjah Award for Fine Critical Research is unique in the Arab world in this particular critical field, as it is the only award that discusses a vital artistic topic and highlights the efforts made by Arab writers, critics and academics.
