The General Assembly renews its support for Ukraine despite Washington’s abstention from the vote


Adopted General Assembly The United Nations on Tuesday issued a resolution confirming its support for For Ukraine and its territorial integrity, while The United States abstained from voting, on the fourth anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The text of the resolution, which was adopted by a majority of 107 votes in favour, against 12 votes against, with 51 countries abstaining from voting, including the United States, confirmed, "Firm commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders"
The resolution also called again for an immediate, complete and unconditional ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, and for a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in accordance with international law, and for the exchange of all prisoners of war.

The reason for America’s refusal to vote

The United States abstained from voting, after its request to vote separately on paragraphs related to Ukraine’s territorial integrity and international law was rejected.
Deputy US Ambassador Tammy Bruce said: "The United States, of course, welcomes the call for an immediate ceasefire, but this resolution also includes language that may distract from the ongoing negotiations rather than support all diplomatic avenues that would pave the way for a lasting peace."
The leaders of the G7 countries, including US President Donald Trump, confirmed on Tuesday: "Their firm support for Ukraine in defending its territorial integrity and right to exist"

Ukraine’s territorial integrity

A year ago, a month after Trump returned to the White House, the United States voted against a resolution calling for… "Hello Adel" It was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly.
As a result, the United States, with Russian support, passed a resolution in the Security Council calling for a quick peace, but it did not mention Ukraine’s territorial integrity, which angered Kiev’s European allies.
Before adopting this resolution, paralysis prevailed in the Security Council due to Russia’s use of its veto on this issue.
Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Mariana Petsa said: "Despite US-led and European-backed peace efforts, Russia continues to show no real will to stop this aggression"
Russian Deputy Ambassador Anna Evstigneva responded by saying: "If the Kiev regime really wanted lasting peace, it would focus its efforts on security guarantees for both Ukraine and Russia, not another politically motivated vote.".
