With financial grants and support for researchers…an international scientific movement to interrogate history "Derb Zubaida"

It called The Heritage Authority of the Ministry of Culture, in partnership with King Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies, academics and researchers to provide original scientific contributions that culminate in their inclusion in a peer-reviewed book dedicated to "Darb Zubaida"One of the most important historical Hajj paths in the Islamic world.
This research movement, supported by financial grants and field support, aims to deepen knowledge of the historical development of the path, and analyze its physical effects, its environmental context, and the contemporary challenges associated with it, within a more comprehensive initiative to document, interpret and preserve Hajj paths.
9 precise axes
The scope of the research expands to include comprehensive coverage across 9 main axes; start with "Material analysis and construction techniques" Such as studying mortar, plaster, ceramics, glass, and soil mechanics, and moving on to "Urbanism and Abbasid architecture" To study the role of water in planning and building types.
The research also addresses "History and social mobility" Its intersection with the Uqailiyat paths, in addition to a study "Inscriptions and graphology (paleography)" In sites such as Al-Rabza and Al-Lawiya.
The scientific scope extends to include "Archaeological survey and landscape archaeology" Using remote sensing to analyze the difficulty of the terrain, evaluate the Umm Al-Qurun lighthouse, and geographic information systems for the landmarks (Zurud, Al-Khuzaimiya, Al-Bida’, Al-Waseet, and Talhat).
In addition to this, studies "Hydrology and water systems"and"Historical geography and geographic information systems studies"and"Archival and documentary research" For photographs, memoirs, and modern ponds documented in the 1970s, up to "Climatic and environmental studies" To track the impact of climate on road design and adaptation.
Transparency in arbitration
To ensure scientific integrity, the two bodies stipulated that applicants belong to academic, research, or heritage institutions, and attach a CV documenting their scientific record.
The criteria stressed that contributions must be exclusively related to: "Derb Zubaida"And original, not previously published or submitted to another party, provided that the abstracts clearly explain the research question and methodology.
All works, whether submitted in Arabic or English, are subject to scientific editing and academic arbitration. "Double and anonymous"With the authors’ commitment to amend their work according to the comments received.
Financial grants and a road map towards 2027
The project grants each winning researcher dedicated financial support, with the possibility of providing additional field support for projects that require it.
The participation journey goes through precise stages that begin with submitting a research summary of 500 words, then submitting the first draft, all the way to the final version, which ranges from 6 to 8 thousand words.
The initiative has been defined. March 26, 2026 AD is the last date for receiving abstracts, so that those accepted will be notified by the end of April 2026 AD.
The first drafts of the chapters will be delivered on August 26, 2026 AD, and the final copies on November 20, 2026 AD, in preparation for the birth of this bilingual scientific book, which is scheduled to be issued via "Al-Faisal Publishing House" During the third quarter of 2027 AD.
