Jordan announces the interruption of natural gas coming from the Mediterranean fields

The Jordanian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Dr. Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, said on Sunday that the events taking place in the region led to the interruption of the Kingdom’s supply of natural gas coming from the Mediterranean fields used for the purposes of producing electrical energy.

The Jordanian News Agency “Petra” quoted Al-Kharabsheh as saying, in a press statement, that the implementation of the approved emergency plan had begun, as the move was made to using various energy alternatives, including natural gas through a floating ship or the use of diesel or heavy fuel.

The minister explained that the transition to using diesel instead of natural gas costs the National Electricity Company about one million and 800 thousand Jordanian dinars per day, stressing that Jordan has sufficient strategic reserves and there are no problems in the process of providing supplies from a technical standpoint.
