After an attack on a school in Iran, UNESCO stresses the need to protect schools

The organization said in a statement published on the

UNESCO stressed that killing students in a place designated for education is a grave violation of the protection guaranteed by international humanitarian law for schools.

She said that attacks on educational institutions put students and teachers at risk, and undermine the right to education.

She explained that in accordance with its mandate and the UN Security Council resolution No. 2601 (2021)UNESCO reminds all parties of their obligations to protect schools, students and workers in the education sector.
