With a capacity of 9,000 worshippers.. “Sharjah Islamic University” completes its plan by opening 17 new mosques

The Sharjah Islamic Affairs Department has completed its plan to open 17 new mosques in various cities and suburbs of the emirate, from the beginning of this year until the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

The new mosques can accommodate about 9,000 male and female worshipers, and are distributed as 11 mosques in the city of Sharjah, 4 mosques in the Central Region, and one mosque in each of Al Hamriya and the Eastern Region.

Member of the Executive Council of the Emirate of Sharjah, Head of the Department of Islamic Affairs, Counselor Dr. Issa Saif bin Hanzal, confirmed that this achievement reflects the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and his continued keenness to allocate land and support mosque construction projects to keep pace with urban expansion and population growth.

He explained that the new mosques are distinguished by their diverse architectural styles inspired by the authentic Islamic style, and include independent prayer rooms for women and service facilities according to the highest standards to be friendly to all segments of society, including the elderly and people of determination.

The head of the department appreciated the contributions of philanthropists in constructing a number of these mosques, stressing that their opening comes within an ongoing strategic plan to assess the needs of residential areas in coordination with the competent authorities in the emirate.
