The taxi sector in Dubai will transport 209 million passengers during the year 2025

Dubai, 3 March / WAM / The taxi sector in Dubai recorded an exceptional performance during the year 2025, achieving an increase in the number of passengers by 4.2% to reach 209.02 million passengers, compared to about 200.65 million passengers in 2024, and this coincided with an increase in the number of trips to reach 120.1 million trips.
This achievement was achieved through a registered fleet of 14,476 vehicles, which reflects Dubai’s commitment to providing an efficient and sustainable transportation system that meets the needs of passengers.
Within the framework of this growth, Adel Shakri, Director of the Planning and Business Development Department at the Public Transport Agency at the Roads and Transport Authority, confirmed the remarkable success of the digital transformation strategy, and explained that electronic reservation channels accounted for 45% of the total taxi trips, recording an increase of 13% compared to the previous year. To ensure that demand is met with high efficiency, all taxis have become available through electronic booking platforms during peak times.
In terms of sustainability and modernizing the sector’s infrastructure, Shakri stated that the size of the fleet grew by 6% with the addition of about 600 new vehicles during the year, and 90% of operational vehicles are currently either hybrid or electric, within a clear road map that aims to reach a 100% electric fleet by 2040, in support of Dubai’s strategy for carbon neutrality 2050.
To ensure a reliable and comfortable transportation experience, the Authority introduced tangible improvements to vehicles, including leather seats, interior fresheners, and digital ceiling lights. Artificial intelligence was also employed to enhance lost and found services and monitor drivers’ compliance with safety standards. The sector maintained world-class levels of response, with an expected arrival time of less than 3.5 minutes recorded in more than 75% of trips.
Shakri concluded his statements by pointing out the great leap achieved by the limousine sector through electronic booking. It recorded a 25% increase in the number of flights to reach 41 million flights (compared to 32.8 million flights in 2024), during which it transported 71.4 million passengers.
This growth was supported by the addition of 35 new companies and about 2,500 vehicles, bringing the total limousine fleet to about 15,000 vehicles. Electric vehicles constitute 18% of this fleet, while operating efficiency continues to record an arrival time of less than 3.5 minutes in 83% of limousine trips.
