Reopening of the Kerem Shalom crossing for aid to enter Gaza, and the killing of Palestinians in the West Bank

In the daily press conference, Dujarric said that about 300,000 liters of fuel per day are necessary to continue vital humanitarian operations in Gaza, so it is necessary to continue the regular flow of fuel until sustainable solutions are found to provide electricity to Gaza.

He added that the Rafah and Zakim crossings remain closed, and rotations of international humanitarian staff remain suspended, adding an additional burden to UN operations. Meanwhile, coordinated operations inside Gaza have resumed, he said.

He went on to say: “We and our partners reiterate the need to open more crossings to enable the expansion of the response to meet the humanitarian needs of the population of the Strip. Supplies must enter in a regular and sustainable manner.”.

Urgent need for shelter supplies

The United Nations spokesman quoted the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs as saying that shelter remains an urgent need for most of Gaza’s residents, who are still displaced after more than two years of war.

He stated that during the past week, United Nations partners distributed shelter aid, including plastic sheets, bed sheets, mattresses, blankets, winter clothes, and basic kitchen supplies, to more than 1,600 families, recalling that “Unfortunately, the most durable shelter solutions are still banned from entering Gaza.”.

The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said that partners provided their services to nearly 6,700 people last week, including psychosocial support, legal assistance, and awareness of the dangers of explosives. Partners also provided psychosocial support and recreational activities related to Ramadan to about 8,000 children in Gaza.

Two Palestinians were killed and others injured in the West Bank

Regarding the situation in the West Bank, the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said that Israeli security forces continued to close most checkpoints.

He warned that these measures severely restrict the freedom of movement of Palestinians, and hinder their ability to access their livelihoods and basic services. It also affects the ability of humanitarian partners to provide assistance and carry out necessary operations.

The OCHA office reported that yesterday, Monday, Israeli settlers killed two Palestinians and wounded three others, including two children, during a raid on the village of Qaryut near Nablus. The injured were taken to hospital for treatment.

He stressed that the Palestinians in the occupied West Bank must be protected, and the perpetrators of settlement violence must be held accountable and brought to justice.
