Alcaraz wins the Laureus Award for Best Athlete

Spanish tennis stars Carlos Alcaraz and Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka won the Best Male and Female Athlete of the Year awards at the Laureus Awards ceremony on Monday, while France’s Paris Saint-Germain won the Team of the Year title.
Alcaraz won the French and US Open championships last year, in addition to the Australian Open last January, while world number one Sabalenka won the US Open title for the second time in a row last year.
Paris Saint-Germain achieved a historic achievement by winning the Champions League title for the first time in its history in 2025.
Northern Irish golf star Rory McIlroy, who successfully defended his Masters title this month, was named Sportsman’s Comeback of the Year.
Lamine Yamal, the 18-year-old star of Barcelona and the Spanish national football team, won the Best Young Athlete of the Year award.
Meanwhile, the world champion in Formula 1 car racing, Briton Lando Norris, won the award for best international sporting achievement of the year.
German football star Toni Kroos won the Global Sports Inspiration Award, while retired gymnast Nadia Comaneci received the Lifetime Achievement Award.
American skater Chloe Kim won the award for best athlete in the world in the field of extreme sports.
The award for the best athlete with a disability went to Brazilian Gabriel Araujo.
