I introduced The General Authority for Surveying and Geospatial Information draft mandatory rules for qualifying and classifying practitioners in the sector, to ensure efficiency and" target="_blank">Protecting beneficiaries by creating a unified register that will come into effect soon after the official publication.

The new rules aim to organize and develop the practice of activities and Geospatial work, and raising the level of quality of services and products provided in this vital sector.

This measure comes to enhance confidence in the outputs of the sector and its practitioners, and protect the beneficiaries of the services, while supporting the continuous development of practitioners and raising their professional competencies.

Creating a register of practitioners

Under these rules, the Authority obligated every practitioner of surveying and geospatial information activities to obtain official accreditation, to be later classified according to levels that depend on their professional fields.

The document also included the establishment of a practitioner registry, which is an accurate database that records all accredited practitioners and includes their personal and professional data and classifications.

To enhance transparency, the Authority will publish a list of the names of accredited practitioners on its website, allowing customers and the public to directly verify the reliability of service providers.

Strict Obligations for the Practitioner

On the other hand, the Authority stressed strict obligations for the practitioner, most notably keeping transaction records for five years, And strictly maintaining the confidentiality of customer data.

The regulations warned against prohibited practices that include harming customers, tampering with geospatial information, or transferring accreditation to third parties.

The prohibitions extended to include preventing the use of any surveying or technical device that may emit polluting emissions or negatively affect the surrounding environmental environments.

Integrated Governance System

To ensure effective implementation, the Authority established a governance system. It is integrated and includes specialized committees for professional accreditation, compliance and quality assurance, regulation and professional conduct, and grievances.

The Compliance and Quality Assurance Committee undertakes the tasks of monitoring and field inspection to ensure the application of rules and the protection of personal data, with the observers’ commitment to complete impartiality and confidentiality.

The project draft revealed that current practitioners will be granted initial accreditation once they are registered in the register, as a transitional step that obligates them later to complete the requirements for final accreditation.

And this will be implemented. The rules are binding on all sector practitioners after a specified period has passed from the date of their publication and approval in the Official Gazette.
