The Abu Dhabi Registration and Licensing Authority (ADRA), the arm of the Department of Economic Development – Abu Dhabi to develop and regulate the business sector in the emirate, confirmed its continued efforts to enhance market stability and ensure the availability of goods and services with high quality and fair prices, within the framework of its regulatory and supervisory role aimed at supporting the national economy and protecting consumer rights.
The Abu Dhabi Registration and Licensing Authority explained that it continuously carries out monitoring campaigns and inspection tours of various facilities and markets, to ensure compliance with the approved rules and regulations, and to monitor any practices that may affect the market balance or harm consumers.
In light of the current developments, the Abu Dhabi Registration and Licensing Authority issued a circular requiring economic establishments to continue providing basic goods in sufficient quantities, with a full commitment not to raise the prices of goods or services without a legitimate and documented justification that is consistent with the legislation in force.
The circular stressed the importance of being careful to sell in appropriate quantities that meet the natural needs of the consumer in order to preserve the balance of the markets, and to avoid any behavior or procedure that may fall within monopolistic practices.
The Abu Dhabi Registration and Licensing Authority reported that it carried out 740 field visits in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Dhafra, during which it monitored a number of violations of non-compliance with instructions issued by the competent authorities, and issued 416 warnings and 38 violations to non-compliant establishments.
The Abu Dhabi Registration and Licensing Authority continues to monitor market movements and indicators of supply and demand periodically, and coordinate with the relevant authorities to ensure the smooth flow of supply chains and the availability of basic goods.
Director General of the Abu Dhabi Registration and Licensing Authority, Mohammed Munif Al Mansouri, said: “The Abu Dhabi Registration and Licensing Authority places market stability as its top priority, and supervisory and awareness efforts contribute to enhancing confidence in the markets and creating a fair and sustainable trading environment.”
