Canceling the Bahrain and Saudi Arabia races in April due to the situation in the Middle East

Formula One and the International Automobile Federation announced today, in a statement, that after conducting careful assessments of the current conditions in the Middle East region, it has been decided not to hold the Bahrain Grand Prix and the Saudi Arabia Grand Prix within the World Motor Racing Championship next April.

The statement explained that several alternatives were put forward for consideration, but it was ultimately decided not to include any alternative races during the month of April. It was also decided that the scheduled rounds of the Formula 2, Formula 3 and Formula 1 Academy championships would not be held during the same period on their specified dates.

The statement indicated that the decision was taken in full consultation with the International Automobile Federation and the local racing organizers.

World Championship President and CEO Stefano Domenicali said: “Although this decision was difficult, it is unfortunately the right decision at this stage given the current situation in the Middle East. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the FIA and our distinguished organizing partners for their full support and understanding, especially as they were looking forward to hosting the races with the usual enthusiasm and energy. We look forward to returning to them as soon as circumstances allow.”

For his part, FIA President Mohammed bin Sulayem said: “The FIA will continue to put the safety and well-being of the motorsport community first, and we will continue to work with all partners to follow developments and take appropriate decisions in light of the existing circumstances.”
