The crescent sighting committee for Shawwal 1447 AH will be held tomorrow evening, Wednesday
ABU DHABI, 17 March 2026, the twenty-ninth of the blessed month of Ramadan, in the capital, Abu Dhabi, headed by His Excellency Sheikh Abdullah bin Al-Sheikh Al-Mahfouz bin Bayyah – Chairman of the Emirates Council for Sharia Fatwa, and in the presence of His Excellency Dr. Omar Habtoor Al-Darai – Vice President. The Council is Chairman of the General Authority for Islamic Affairs, Endowments and Zakat.
The convening of the committee comes within the framework of the powers entrusted to the Council in detecting crescent moons and declaring their confirmation, and its keenness to unify the authority in this regard, in order to establish a disciplined institutional methodology in proving the arrival of the lunar months, and enhance societal confidence in the procedures for detecting crescent moons and declaring their confirmation.
The Council explained that the work of the committee will begin after the Maghrib prayer, where the reports of the field monitoring teams and the investigation results received from the accredited observatories in the country will be presented, in addition to studying the testimonies that may be received from various regions of the country, in accordance with the legal controls and procedures adopted in this regard.
The Emirates Council for Sharia Fatwa had called on community members to sight the crescent of the month of Shawwal on Wednesday evening, and to participate in registering their testimonies via the designated electronic link, which will be announced on the Council’s official channels, emphasizing the importance of reviving the Sunnah of Tarai, and enhancing community participation in this event.
He stressed that the announcement of the confirmation of the crescent of the month of Shawwal will be made through the approved official channels as soon as the committee finishes its deliberations, asking God Almighty to accept everyone’s fasting and prayers, and to return this occasion to the UAE, its leadership and its people with goodness, right and blessings.
