Dubai Chamber of Commerce and"Climate change" Promote awareness of sustainability reporting and governance
Dubai, June 11 / WAM / The Dubai Chamber of Commerce, one of the three chambers operating under the umbrella of Dubai Chambers, organized a workshop in cooperation with the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, with the aim of enhancing awareness of environmental, social and governance sustainability reporting practices, and expanding the scope of application of these practices within the business community in Dubai.
The workshop, hosted by the Chamber’s Business Ethics Center, highlighted the importance of accelerating the adoption of sustainability reporting requirements, in light of the rapid developments witnessed in the relevant regulatory frameworks, in addition to enabling companies to move towards more effective disclosure and compliance with approved standards.
The workshop attracted 130 participants, and brought together experts in the fields of environmental, social, and governance sustainability, along with business leaders and experts in the financial and strategic risk management sectors, as it focused on the growing need to enhance reporting practices.
The workshop contributed to bridging the gap related to reporting by clarifying the latest developments in regulatory requirements and providing practical insights drawn from the experiences of market leaders, thus supporting companies in adopting more committed and effective disclosure practices.
Maha Al Gergawi, Vice President of the Business Community Interest Support Sector at Dubai Chambers, said that the Chambers are keen to support companies operating in Dubai and enable them to keep pace with the evolving requirements and standards in the field of preparing sustainability reports, by enhancing awareness and providing knowledge and tools that help them adopt the best global practices.
She added that these efforts contribute to enhancing compliance, consolidating the confidence of investors, partners and stakeholders, and supporting companies’ ability to achieve long-term sustainable growth, thus enhancing the competitiveness of the business community in Dubai and the emirate’s position as a leading global center for business and investment.
The workshop witnessed key presentations by several prominent parties, where representatives of the United Nations General Protocol for the Sustainable Development Goals reviewed the frameworks for preparing environmental, social, and governance sustainability reports, while the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment provided an overview of the latest developments related to the requirements for preparing climate reports under Federal Decree Law No. (11) of 2024, and the Capital Market Authority in the country also reviewed the regulatory requirements and expectations for companies listed on the financial markets.
The workshop highlighted successful practical experiences from previous winners of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce’s Environmental, Social and Governance Sustainability Standards (ESG Label), where representatives from ALEC Holding and SALIC presented their experiences in the field of preparing sustainability reports, reviewing the lessons learned and realistic examples of the successful application of environmental, social and governance sustainability practices.
