"The gallant knight 3" and"Global philanthropy" They launch a program "A step of hope" To manufacture and install artificial limbs from Al-Arish

Abu Dhabi, June 11, 2017 – Operation Gallant Knight 3, in cooperation with the International Charitable Organization, today launched the “Step of Hope” prosthetic limbs programme, in a specialized humanitarian initiative that responds to cases of amputation resulting from the events that the Palestinian people are exposed to in Gaza, and aims to install upper and lower prosthetic limbs for the injured displaced, in a way that restores their ability to move and paves the way for a new phase of recovery, restoring hope, and rebuilding life.
The first phase of the program begins in the city of Al-Arish through an integrated system that begins with rapid communication through the hotline of the Emirati Floating Hospital, followed by scheduling an appointment to conduct a thorough clinical examination and evaluate the condition, then taking accurate measurements of the missing limb to ensure the highest degree of conformity, leading to the start of the manufacturing process according to the highest technical and medical standards.
The second stage is based on employing technology to overcome field challenges inside the Gaza Strip, by conducting a three-dimensional (3D) digital scan of the remaining part of the injured, and sending the data via encrypted professional software to the Emirati Floating Hospital in Al-Arish, where the prosthetic limb is manufactured with extreme precision and sent ready to the beneficiary within the Strip.
In its third phase, the program moves from the emergency response to the path of sustainable empowerment, through the localization of the prosthetic limb industry within the Gaza Strip, the provision of specialized centers for manufacturing, the establishment and securing of strategic stores for raw materials and necessary medical devices, in addition to financing and rehabilitating the already existing prosthetic limb workshops, in a way that supports the local economy and contributes to accelerating the pace of treatment and rehabilitation.
The program relies on an advanced system of prosthetic limbs designed according to the latest engineering and medical standards. The upper limbs above the elbow include advanced mechanical elbow joints and techniques for weight distribution and shock absorption, while the upper limbs below the elbow feature a lightweight design, rapid motor response, and flexible wrist joints.
The lower limbs above the knee also include hydraulic and mechanical knee joints and a high-precision balance system to protect the spine, while the lower limbs below the knee rely on a dynamic simulation of natural walking with a custom “socket” design that achieves the highest levels of comfort for the torso.
Mohammed Al Sharif, the official spokesman for Operation “The Gallant Knight 3,” said in a statement to the Emirates News Agency, WAM, that the program comes as an extension of the humanitarian efforts that were launched under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, may God protect him, in November 2023, and which continue without interruption until today, stressing that the launch of the prosthetics program is a “step of hope” that embodies the UAE’s continued commitment to supporting our Palestinian brothers and alleviating their suffering.
He explained that the initiative is not the first in the field of providing prosthetic limbs, but it represents the launch of an integrated program being implemented in cooperation with the International Charitable Organization, noting that other charitable institutions will join to contribute to the program and will be announced at a later time.
He added that the first phase will witness the provision of more than 40 prosthetic limbs for 40 cases, with work starting from the Emirati floating hospital in the port of Al-Arish to receive the existing cases, in parallel with coordination to receive cases from the Gaza Strip, pointing out that the possibility of establishing a specialized workshop to manufacture prosthetic limbs within the Gaza Strip is also being studied, which will contribute to enhancing the sustainability of services provided to the injured.
