Kim supervises the testing of a missile engine “aimed at reaching America”
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un supervised a new test of a solid-fuel rocket engine, as part of developing the country’s strategic arsenal, the official Korean Central News Agency reported on Sunday.
Solid fuel engines are characterized by their high propulsion ability and quick launch procedures.
Experts reported that this engine is designed to operate the new Hwasong-20 intercontinental ballistic missiles, which North Korea revealed in October last year, aiming to reach the United States.
Analyst Hong Min, from the South Korean Institute for National Reunification, noted that this test confirms “Pyongyang’s determination to possess missiles capable of hitting targets anywhere in the world.”
The Korean Central News Agency did not specify the date and location of the experiment, but stated that it falls within the “main goal of modernizing strategic offensive capabilities,” adding that the engine is made of a carbon fiber composite material.
