المملكة: “Ports” extends the exemption for empty containers at the ports of King Abdulaziz and Jubail

The General Ports Authority (MAWANI) launched today, Sunday, an initiative to extend the exemption period for empty containers coming through King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam and Jubail Commercial Port, within the framework of supporting the competitiveness of Saudi ports and enhancing the efficiency of Logistics operations, which contributes to supporting the movement of national exports.
The initiative aims to extend the period of exemption from storage fees for incoming empty containers from 10 days to 20 days in both ports, which motivates shipping lines to import and redirect empty containers to the ports of the Eastern Region, and enhance their flow continuously.
The initiative also contributes to stimulating the redirection of empty containers located in the ports of the Arab Gulf countries to the King’s Port Abdulaziz in Dammam and Jubail Commercial Port, which increases the level of availability of empty containers necessary for export operations, and supports the smooth movement of goods through the ports.
The head of the General Ports Authority, Sulaiman Al-Mazrou, explained that the initiative to extend the exemption period for empty containers is a major possibility to motivate shipping lines to increase the flow of empty containers to Saudi ports, which contributes to enhancing their availability to meet export needs.
He added that the initiative supports raising the efficiency of operational processes and enhancing the smoothness of Container movement, in addition to contributing to reducing operational costs associated with the availability of containers. Ports confirmed" It continues to develop qualitative initiatives that contribute to enhancing the competitiveness of Saudi ports and consolidating the Kingdom’s position as a regional logistics center, in line with the objectives of the National Strategy for Transport and Logistics Services.
This initiative comes within the efforts to develop The logistics sector and raising its operational efficiency, in a way that enhances the competitiveness of Saudi ports, and supports achieving the goals of the national strategy for transport and logistics services in consolidating the Kingdom’s position as a global logistics center.
