Barcelona offers Lewandowski a contract renewal

A news report stated that the Spanish club Barcelona offered its Polish striker, Robert Lewandowski, to renew his contract with the team, which expires at the end of the current season.

The Spanish newspaper “Sport” reported on Sunday that Barcelona had offered Lewandowski (37 years old) the opportunity to remain in the team next season, in light of the current lack of clarity about his future.

The Polish striker lost his starting position to Ferran Torres for most of the current season, and in recent weeks German Hansi Flick gave him the opportunity to participate as a starter to motivate him to regain his level. Despite this, Barcelona will look to include a new striker in light of its transfer plans for next season.

The newspaper explained that Barcelona presented a new offer to Lewandowski, which includes reducing his salary by half with a number of variables that may greatly increase the total salary. Joan Laporta, Barcelona’s president, had publicly confirmed that he wanted the veteran striker to stay.

It seems that Barcelona is seeking to get rid of Ferran Torres this summer if Lewandowski stays, as the club does not see the possibility of having three strikers with the same tasks on the team’s roster, and therefore Lewandowski also wants to play an important role in the team even if a new star joins.

The newspaper reported that Polish journalist Janusz Michalek quoted Gregg Berhalter, the coach of the American team Chicago Fire, as saying that he believes that Lewandowski will remain in Barcelona next season and that this is a priority for him in light of the fact that he has received several offers, one of which is from Chicago Fire.
