Declaring a state of alert in the Democratic Republic of the Congo due to the risk of radioactive contamination

The Republic of is on high alert due to the danger of at some mining sites with in the southeast of the country.
Congolese President Felix Tshisekedi – during a cabinet meeting – called for raising the level of monitoring in light of a situation described as worrying.
The Congolese authorities took emergency measures to reduce risks and protect residents in the mining waste area after confirming the presence of radioactive materials, at a time when the sources of pollution are still not precisely identified.
