2.5% increase in the inflation rate in the Eurozone during March

Luxembourg, March 31, 2017 – Official data showed today that the inflation rate in the euro zone rose to 2.5% on an annual basis during this March, compared to 1.9% last February, as a result of the sharp rise in fuel prices.

Data from the European Union statistics agency Eurostat revealed that energy prices rose by 4.9% during March, compared to a decline of 3.1% last February.

In contrast, food price inflation was at a relatively moderate level of 2.4%, while service prices, which include a wide range of activities from medical care to hairdressing services, rose by 3.2%.
