NATO is a paper tiger and I am considering withdrawing from it

US President Donald Trump said in an interview with the British newspaper The Daily Telegraph that he is seriously considering withdrawing the United States from NATO after the allies’ failure to support the US military operation against Iran.
The newspaper reported that Trump described the alliance as a “paper tiger,” and quoted him as saying that the issue of the United States’ withdrawal from the defense agreement “has passed the stage of reconsideration.”
He added that he had long had doubts about NATO’s credibility.
When asked whether he would reconsider US membership in the alliance after the war, Trump told the newspaper, “Yes, I would say it’s past the stage of reconsideration.”
He added, “I was never convinced by NATO. I always knew that it was a paper tiger, and Russian President Vladimir Putin knows that too, by the way.”
