Emirates Horse Racing Authority auction records record participation, with an increase of 154%

Dubai, April 3 / WAM / The Emirates Horse Racing Authority confirmed that its auction, which was held on the Tattersalls Online platform during the period from March 26 to April 1, witnessed a record participation of 221 bidders from around the world, an increase of 154% compared to the average participants in the Authority’s in-person auctions during the past five years.

The authority explained, in a statement, that the auction included 196 horses, of which 169 horses were displayed, 132 horses were sold, and the second day recorded a sales rate of 93%, bringing the total proceeds to 9 million 566 thousand and 900 dirhams.

The auction was topped by the horse Masai Moon, which belongs to Godolphin operations, and whose training was supervised by Charlie Appleby, after it was sold for one million and 100 thousand dirhams for Zabeel Stables.

The horse is 4 years old, and has previously won twice in the United Kingdom, and also finished runner-up in its last two appearances at the Meydan Track during the current season.

Trainer Charlie Appleby’s horses ranked in 4 of the highest-priced positions at the auction, including the horse “Indian Springs”, which was sold for 880,000 dirhams to Crown Barzani, while “The Brothers Bloodstock” company acquired the horse “Pacifica Pierre” for 780,000 dirhams, and “Alpine Trail” for 620,000 dirhams.

His Excellency Mohammed Al Shehhi, Member of the Board of Directors and Director General of the Authority, confirmed that the large demand for the electronic auction reflects the growing interest in horse racing in the country and the ease of using digital platforms, stressing that electronic auctions play a pivotal role in supporting the movement of horses between countries in the region and ensuring the continuation of their competitive journey.
